The Michael Jackson Memorial Procession is a re-imagining and harnessing of the improvised, memorial sonic space that became so dynamic Chicago-wide when Michael died one year ago. At 6 PM on June 25th, 2010, a caravan will proceed from his boyhood home in Gary, IN and travel throughout the city of Chicago, IL. To honor and celebrate his legacy and place in our cultural consciousness, each car in the procession will be marked with screen printed MJ flags and, via a mobile pirate radio station, will sound a sonically project a Michael Jackson play list, providing a ‘multiple-blocks-long’ synced traveling audio memorial. The procession seeks to create a collective experience of remembering and reliving Jackson’s legacy by creating a temporal, mobile, sonic memorial. All procession participants will be given cameras to document their individual participation in the collective.
